31 from area selected for Governor's Honors Program

ATLANTA - With West Hall leading the way, eight Gainesville-Hall County high schoolers have been approved for the Governor's Honors Program this year. In all, 31 students in the immediate Gainesville area were selected.

The eight from Hall County includes three from West Hall High - Chelsea Howard, Hannah Jarrells, and Nancy Kim; from Chestatee High, Bryan Boyer and Rachael Smith; from Flowery Branch, Sara Dunham and Jaron Wilkerson; and, from Gainesville High, Robert Jennings.

According to the state Department of Education Web site, the Governor's Honors Program is a six-week summer instructional program designed to "provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year." Activities are designed to provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become independent, life-long learners.

This year's program will begin June 10 and conclude July 21.
