ATLANTA - Governor Perdue has begun taking applications for a soon-to-be-vacant northeast Georgia District Attorney's office.

Piedmont Judicial Circuit D.A. Tim Madison has resigned effective Monday amid a state investigation into whether he misspent thousands of dollars from a victim's assistance fund.

The governor's office says applications will be accepted through June 13 from attorneys in the circuit, which covers Banks, Barrow and Jackson counties.
