Historic preservation grants announced

ATLANTA - Six organizations in northeast Georgia are among 52 groups statewide to receive grants from the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board.

The awards were announced by Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel.

She says the grants, known as Circuit Rider Archivist Consultation Grants, will be used to preserve historic documents in five northeast Georgia counties: Banks, Forsyth, Jackson, Rabun and Union.

A professional archivist will visit each organization to assist in the care of that group's historical records.

The Circuit Rider Archivist Program Round Two is funded by the Georgia General Assembly and Clayton State University, will assist local organizations with the preservation of historical documents and increase public access to historical records.

Grant recipients from northeast Georgia are:

*Banks County Superior Court , Banks County

*Forsyth County Probate Court, Forsyth County

*Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences , Rabun County

*Jackson County Government , Jackson County

*Shields-Ethridge Heritage Farm Foundation , Jackson County

*Union County Commissioner, Union County
