Window for paying city water bills may narrow

GAINESVILLE - You may soon have less time to pay your City of Gainesville water bill after you receive the bill.

City Council learned Thursday that when compared with other utilities, Gainesville's water department is slower about collecting bills.

Mayor Bob Hamrick said he wants a speedier bill paying process.

"If we speed up the process of billing we get our money into the till a little sooner," Hamrick said.

The comparison showed Georgia Power Company gives customers about 17 days to pay the monthly bill while city water customers get up to 38 days.
