The 'road to city hall' opens

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - This is what is known as an off-year for elections. It is just that for most elected officials and would-be office holders but not all.

Municipal elections will be held across Georgia November 6 and qualifying begins Monday.

In Hall County, there are 25 city council or city school board posts that will be voted on in nine municipalities. Across the rest of northeast Georgia, there are countless elections that will have to be held in small hamlets as well as county seats - places such as Tallulah Falls, Toccoa, Pendergrass, Ellijay, Rabun Gap, and Cumming.

The length of the qualifying period varies from town to town but for most of them it ends Wednesday afternoon. Early voting will begin Oct. 29 and end Nov. 2.
