CUMMING - A bridge over Georgia 400 in Forsyth County was damaged Friday afternoon when it was hit by a tractor-trailer, leaving the overpass and one northbound lane of Georgia 400 closed for most of the afternoon rush hour and into the evening.
There was no word late Friday night how long it will take to repair the Pendley Road span.
The 18-wheeler's load - heavy construction equipment - was about two feet higher than the clearance under the bridge. The impact caused severe damage to the steel beams on the bridge, according to state DOT officials. Road crews were still on the scene late Friday night.
Pendley Road is in the southern part of Forsyth County just north of Georgia 141.
