GAINESVILLE - One section of the Jerry Jackson Bridge on Dawsvonille Highway west of Gainesville is of the same construction design as the bridge in Minneapolis that collapsed earlier this week.

Channel 2 Action News reported Friday that the older of the two two-lane spans that cross Lake Lanier near Gainesville Marina - making up the Jerry Jackson Bridge - is the one that is similar to the one in Minneapolis.

It was built about 50 years ago. The other bridge was built in 1992 when the road was four-laned.

The state Department of Transportation says the bridge is in "very good shape," adding that it scored a 78 out of 100 when it was last inspected.

The other bridge that is of similar construction is a much smaller one located in Talbot County.
