Lanier, roads pretty safe, so far

UNDATED - Lake Lanier and the roads and highways in northeast Georgia have been pretty safe so far this holiday weekend.

According to the state Department of Natural Resources, as of late Sunday night, there had been only two boating accidents reported on Lanier, both without injuries, and one boating-under-the-influence arrest.

On the roads and highways, the state patrol reported that as of midnight Sunday there had been one fatality in northeast Georgia since the holiday count began at 6 p.m. Friday. That happened in Fannin County.

In addition, troopers reported 176 accidents with 58 injuries.

Statewide, the totals were 1,945 accident, 523 injuries, and seven fatalities.
