Hall BOE approves South Hall redistricting plan

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Hall County school board members approved a redistricting plan Monday night that shifts students from Friendship Elementary School to Spout Springs and from Spout Springs to the new Chestnut Mt. Elementary School.

Superintendent Will Schofield said the Board considered allowing upcoming fifth graders to stay where they are.

"The Board talked about 'grand fathering' upcoming fifth graders and allowing them to stay in their current school as long as the parents would provide the transportation," Schofield said.

Schofield added area high school and middle school redistricting comes later in the year, by September 1st.

BEST SCHOOLS

The Board recognized Johnson, North Hall and West Hall High Schools for being on the U.S. News and World report list of America's Best High Schools.

The Board also applauded Chestatee High School for getting a Gold Award and Lula Elementary School and West Hall Middle School for getting Bronze Awards from the State Board of Education in the category for raising student achievement.

Superintendent Schofield said it's nice when outside agencies take a look at Hall schools and say they are doing well.

"I think this is really a reflection of rigor," Schofield said. "We want to continue to push children to their highest academic levels and I think this is just a recognition of that tonight."
