Can Gainesville kids build a snowman....You bet!!

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Youngsters on Ridgewood Avenue turned artistic when they saw all that snow outside Saturday: it was time to recreate Frosty the Snowman, southern style.

There was enough snow in the front yard for Alexis, Luke, Isaac and Isabel McIntyre to go to work on their very own cold weather sculpture.

"I think its fun," eight year old Alexis said. "People build snowmen because they want to."

It was a brother and sister project, with enough wet white stuff left over to throw snowballs.

Luke said the McIntyre snowman would be at least as tall as the mailbox pole.

"This is twice as much snow as we got last time," he said. "I'm building a snowman and it's fun."

This was Gainesville's second snow this week. The first fell Wednesday night.

Can Gainesville kids build a snowman?

The McIntyre kids can, says Dad, Marshall McIntyre.

"They're just building a snowman and having a blast," he said, observing this was a real treat for children who don't see snow that often.

It snowed a bit more during the winter where McIntyre grew up in North Carolina, and building the snowman brought back memories.

"We'd get some good snow back then;I get nostalgic whenever the snow starts to fall. I get really excited."
