MINNEAPOLIS - Chris Echols led Georgia State with 18 points as the Panthers held off Division II Concordia-St. Paul 67-63 in the NABC Classic Saturday night.
A night after losing at the buzzer in overtime to Bowling Green, Georgia State (1-1) led by six late in the second half before the Golden Bears (0-2) climbed back. Sammy Ricks converted a three-point play with 52.2 seconds left to make it 65-63.
Ricks then forced a Panthers turnover but missed a layup. Quentin Barfield was fouled on the follow but missed both free throws with 12.9 seconds remaining.
Joe Dukes and Bernard Rimmer each added foul shots to seal it for Georgia State.
Matt Cadwell led Concordia-St. Paul with 26 points.
