Gainesville Church offers 'Harvest of Hope'

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Around 150 members of Riverbend Baptist Church set up their "Harvest of Hope" Sunday at Riverside Military Academy, and pitched in to help people combat hard times.

The Rev. Matt Wethington said area churches should step up and extend a helping hand to those caught up in the current economic downturn.

"That's our prayer, that not only we do this but every other church would see the vision and do it in their only little way," Wethington said.

The church offered free medical screenings, haircuts and manicures and grocery bags for Thanksgiving. Carolyn Clack, 24, of Gainesville said Harvest of Hope was a big help to her and others.

"Everybody's having hard times right now and them bringing everyone together and helping the community was just great," Clack said.
