ATHENS - Georgia returns home from a two-game road swing to play host to Kentucky in a Saturday afternoon contest. The Bulldogs dropped both legs of their road trip, to Tennessee a week ago and to South Carolina on Wednesday, and arrive with an 11-7 overall record, 2-3 in SEC play.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Georgia has fared far better at Stegeman Coliseum this season than anywhere else. The Bulldogs are currently riding the longest home winning streak of the Dennis Felton era at 11 games. Last season's team won its home finale, an NIT opener against Fresno State, and the current Dogs have strung together 10 wins here at Stegeman.
This 11-game streak is two wins shy of the longest home win streak posted during the Jim Harrick era. The two teams of Ron Jirsa (1998-99) also strung together 13 wins at home. The longest home win streak of the so-called modern era is 15, done by the 1990-91 teams of coach Hugh Durham. The 1990 team, in fact, posted the only undefeated season in the history of Stegeman Coliseum.
Georgia and Kentucky meet today for the 130th time in a series that dates to the 1921 season. They split a pair of games last season. Georgia won a 78-69 overtime game in Athens while Kentucky won the return game 82-70. They'll complete the regular-season series in Lexington exactly 17 days from today in a Tuesday night contest.
