Spartans roll to win; Saturday's boys basketball roundup

TOCCOA - Marquez Stephens led five players in double figures to lead West Hall to a 72-56 win over Stephens County on the road Saturday night.

It was the third straight win for the Spartans (12-9) who travel to West Forsyth Tuesday in a Region 7B-AAA game.

Stephens finished with 16 points for West Hall. Terrell Penland added 13, Tray Malone 12, Ricky Vital 11, and Derek Weatherly 10 for the Spartans.

Stephens County (8-12) plays host to Apalachee in a Region 8-AAA matchup Tuesday.

WEST FORSYTH 38

CUMMING - Alan Gilleland hit seven 3-pointers as part of his 23 points to lead the Tigers to a win over the Class AAA Wolverines.

Zach Cook had 15 points for Dawson County (17-7) which has won three straight and 13 of its last 15 games overall.

Kris Drees led the Wolverines (6-17) with 10 points.

West Forsyth can play spoiler in Region 7B-AAA with games against West Hall Tuesday and Gainesville Friday. Both teams are fighting for a No. 2 seed in the subregion and a first-round bye in the upcoming Region Tournament.

BUFORD 62
NORTH HALL 45

BUFORD - Buford snapped a nine-game losing streak with a win over the Class AAA Trojans.

Jeramie Moore had 24 points and Twoey Hosch 10 points and seven assists to lead the Wolves (7-15). It was the second of the season for Buford over North Hall.

Josh Haymore led the Trojans with 14 points. North Hall (14-7) has dropped three straight since a season-high seven-game win streak.

North Hall finishes up the regular season with road games at Lumpkin County and Gilmer this week.

Buford plays host to Wesleyan Tuesday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 61

DAHLONEGA - E.J. Young poured in 17 points to lead the Indians to a win at home.

Lumpkin County (5-18) will try to play spoiler in Region 7A-AAA Tuesday night playing host to North Hall, which needs a win to stay alive for a shot at the subregion title.

Lakeview (15-8) had its nine-game win streak snapped with the loss. Senior David Pruett poured in 33 points to lead the Lions.

Lakeview will play host to Athens Christian Tuesday in a Region 8-A game.
