FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Flowery Branch boys basketball team moved to within one game of completing a perfect run through the Region 7B-AAA subregion after whipping Gainesville 85-57 at home Tuesday night.
The Falcons (20-3, 9-0 in subregion) used a 30-15 third quarter to blow open a close game at halftime. Flowery Branch outscored the Elephants (12-11, 5-4) 55-29 in the second half.
The Falcons led just 22-17 after the first quarter and Gainesville closed to within 30-28 by halftime.
Josh Barrett and Conner Shaw each scored 19 points to pace Flowery Branch. A.C. Bailey and Chris Lipscomb each had 10 points for the Falcons, who close out the regular season Friday on the road against Pickens.
Allan Dockery led Gainesville with 14 points. Juwan Jeffries added 11 points for the Red Elephants.
