No. 8 Gilmer beats North Hall, takes second in 7A-AAA (2/8)

ELLIJAY - Class AAA eighth-ranked Gilmer County played slow down in the final four minutes and hit 9-of-9 free throws in that span to pull away for a 55-45 win over North Hall Friday night in girls basketball action.

The win gave the Lady Bobcats (20-5, 7-3 in Region 7A-AAA) second place and a first round bye in next week's Region Tournament. North Hall (16-10, 6-4) finihsed third and will play host to a first round play-in game Monday night.

Kylie Smith was 6-of-6 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help Gilmer hold off the Lady Trojans. Junior Ashley Brown poured in 20 points to lead Gilmer.

The Lady Bobcats were 20-of-23 from the line in the game while North Hall was just 9-of-11 on free throws.

Leiticia Davenport led North Hall with 17 points. Elizabeth Williams added 13 and Bradee Burrell 11 for the Lady Trojans.

Gilmer led 29-23 at halftime but North Hall closed the gap to 36-34 heading into the fourth quarter and tied the game at 38-38 with four minutes left in the game.

However, Gilmer was able to run out to a 44-40 lead with just under three minutes left and held the ball forcing North Hall to foul.
