ELLIJAY - Gilmer won five individual titles and placed 13 of 14 wrestlers in the top four of the Area 7-AAA Traditional Meet Saturday at Gilmer High School.
The Bobcats won the team title going away piling up 264 points to second place Lumpkin County's 145.5 points. Pickens was third with 138.5, Flowery branch fourth with 121, and White County fifth with 111 points.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to the Class AAA Traiditional Tournament.
Gilmer coach Sam Snider said this may be the best senior class of all-time at Gilmer.
"They have not lost a 7-AAA dual match in their four years and to have that many qualify for the state tournament is outstanding," Snider said.
Gilmer had five first place winners and five second place showings in the 14-individual weight classes. Lumpkin had three individual winners, Pickens and Flowery Branch two individual winners each, and West Forsyth and West Hall each had one individual winner.
The Outstanding Wrestlers in three categories were voted on the coaches: Colby Yates of West Hall was named in the light weight category; in the middle weights was Mikey Mooney of Gilmer; and David Snider of Gilmer was named from the upper weights.
