Lula gets county money for veterans park

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Hall County Commissioners Thursday night approved the City of Lula's request for a new veterans park.

That approval came with the condition that the city would spend its money first, according to chairman Tom Oliver.

"As we spend $50,000 out of Hall County's money, you will spend the first fifty and we will back you up on both calendar years," Oliver said.

Lula's City Council committed $100,000 and wants Hall County to provide $50,000 for the next two years.

C.I.D. FOR Hall County

Commissioners also approved what Commissioner Billy Powell called a "self-imposed tax to pay for infrastructure."

Attorney W.A. Bagwell requested approval of a resolution asking local state legislators to approve creation of a community improvement district for Hall County as a commercial development tool.

"The tax would be levied only against the property within that district, not against any other property," Bagwell said.

Bagwell added the C.I.D. tax would be in addition to the property tax the county would normally levy; the additional tax revenue would pay for development improvements.
