Gainesville Council says yes to industrial annexation/rezoning

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - There was no public opposition and with their unanimous yes first reading vote Gainesville City Council annexed and rezoned a new 230-acre industrial park site Tuesday night.

The site off Calvary Church Road near the new Hall County jail has a developer and Councilman Danny Dunagan said to bring in industry you have to have industrial property.

"We're running out of places to have industrial parks," Dunagan said. "This is going to be a great asset with Patillo Construction coming in to develop this property into a first class operation."

Dunagan said the park would develop like Gainesville's other industrial parks, with prepared sites for incoming companies.

Kit Dunlap, president of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, once again spoke in favor of the park.

"This is for our future, this is all about jobs," Dunlap said. "The proposed developer, Patillo Construction Company, partnered with our community before and they are the premier industrial park developer in the Southeast."

Council approved annexing 20 acres for heavy industrial zoning and heavy industrial rezoning of 210 acres already in the city.

The annexation and rezoning request came from the City of Gainesville. Assistant City Manager Kip Padgett told council that development would occur on the north side of the property away from existing homes.
