By staff reports
CLEVELAND - Flowery Branch jumped out to a quick lead and then Cody Ackerman made it stand up as the Falcons beat White County 11-6 in a Region 7-AAA game Wednesday.

It was the ninth straight win for the Falcons (17-2, 13-2 in region) who keep pace with Gainesville for the top spot in the region standings.

Flowery Branch led 4-0 after two innings, 6-3 after the fourth inning, and blew the game open with a four-run sixth, highlighted by a two-out, three-run double by Bucky Free.

It would prove to be a huge hit as White County (11-8, 9-6) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The loss was a costly one for the Warriors, who came into the game tied with North Hall for the fourth playoff spot and are now just one game ahead of surging West Forsyth with six games left in the season. The loss snapped White County's four-game winning streak.

Ackerman went five-plus innings allowing seven hits and three runs in earning the win for the Falcons. Kevin Frederick took the loss for the Warriors.

Patrick Henry, Brad Stone, and Greg Palmer each had two hits to lead the Flowery Branch offense. Free finished with one hit and three RBI for the Falcons.

Casey Jones, Luke Crumley, and Frederick each had two hits for White County.
