Baseball: Pickens stuns Elephants in season finale (5/2)

JASPER -- Pickens scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to shock Gainesville 8-7 Friday in the Region 7-AAA season finale for both teams.

The Red Elephants (20-6, 19-3 in region) were tied with Flowery Branch for first place in the 7-AAA standings heading into Friday's game. The Falcons (24-2, 20-2) beat Lumpkin County 4-3 in eight innings to win the region title outright.

Gainesville next will take on Westminster beginning next Friday at Ivey-Watson Field in a best-of-three first round series of the Class AAA playoffs.

A doubleheader is scheduled for Friday with Game 3, if necessary, set for Saturday.
