Three from Buford, Flowery Branch get service academy appointments

WASHINGTON - Three young people from our area have landed appointments to service academies and have been accepted by the institutions.

Rachael Duval of Hebron Christian Academy and Jarrod Oliver of Buford High School have been accepted to the U.S. Military Academy, and Michael Carothers of Greater Atlanta Christian has been accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Duval is from Auburn, Oliver is from Buford and Carothers is from Flowery Branch.

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., said that 30 Georgia students whom he had nominated to the United States military academies have now received appointments to the prestigious schools.

The annual nomination of young people to the nation' s military academies is the responsibility of each member of Congress. Nominees who are accepted into the academies are awarded full four-year scholarships, which are valued at approximately $350,000 each and include tuition, books, board, medical and dental care.

The Isakson nominees who have been accepted by the Academies this year (listed with their current schools and hometowns) are:
