GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Manager Bryan Shuler Thursday morning recommended denial of the board of education's request to waive the fee the city charges for processing and issuing tax bills for one year.
City council agreed with Shuler's opinion that the city should not increase its millage or make room for the waiver in its current budget, which is bare bone and shows no tax increase.
The waiver would amount to a $226,000 cut to the city's general fund intergovernmental revenue.
The school board called for the waiver at its Monday budget meeting as a budget cutting measure to help drive down its potentially high millage rate brought on by a multi-million dollar deficit.
