Cause of fire narrowed to two possibilities

GAINESVILLE - Hall County firefighters say they have ruled out all but two possibilities in a fire at a home in the Sardis area.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said Friday the official cause of the fire at 6845 Old Fork Road will be listed as undetermined until the insurance company can bring in an engineer to complete an investigation.

"They'll look at the wiring and do testing on the back deck where the fire started," Cagle said. "If they can cross that off their list, then it goes back to a discarded cigarette."

The fire at the 6,000-square-foot home broke out about 6:30 Thursday morning. Damage estimates were placed at $100,000. Everyone inside the home escaped without injury.
