Fight victim critical

GAINESVILLE - A 32-year-old Gainesville man remained in critical condition at last check following a fight on Bolman Road in South Hall Sunday morning.

But investigators now say Aaron Trent Gibbs apparently started the altercation with 25-year-old Allen Reed of Pendergrass - and the two had had problems before.

"The two men had a history of domestic violence in the past," said Maj. Jeff Strickland of the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

Strickland said officers got the call about 9 a.m.

"Just before 9 a.m. Sunday morning deputies...responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Bolman Road off of Candler Road to a report of a fight. Upon arrival deputies discovered that during a fight between two men, one of the men had been severely injured and was experiencing difficulty in breathing."

Strickland said Reed was taken into custody, questioned and then released pending further investigation. He added that a Hall County magistrate Sunday refused to issue a warrant in the case at this time.

Late Sunday, Strickland said "the preliminary investigation indicates that Gibbs was the primary aggressor in the altercation and alcohol was involved."
