Hospitality High opens its doors to Hall Co. students

By Katie Highsmith
GAINESVILLE - Beginning this fall, Hall County students will have the opportunity to attend Hospitality High, a school that gives students hands-on experience in the hospitality industry.

Hospitality High Instructor Rachel McClain said the program is a joint venture between Hall County Schools and Lake Lanier Islands Resort.

"They will spend one day a week in a traditional classroom setting then Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, students will be on site at Lake Lanier Islands," she said.

McClain said the students will rotate between interning in seven different departments at the resort such as desk operations, human resources, marketing and event planning.

"The idea is that students get the instructional information in the classroom, then it's reinforced in an internship role," she said.

McClain said graduates of the program will receive internship credits and have the skills and knowledge in the fields of hospitality, travel and tourism.
