Building at Lanier Village Estates damaged by fire

GAINESVILLE - Residents were evacuated from one building at Lanier Village Estates off Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville Monday morning when an elevator equipment room caught fire.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said no one was hurt and only one building was affected. Cagle said firefighters responded to an alarm just after 10:30 am.

He said security personnel had already extinguished the fire by the time firefighters arrived.

"The staff did get a fire extinguisher and did extinguish the fire," Cagle said. "They did a very good job."

According to Cagle, the fire was started by an overheated elevator engine. Damage was estimated at $8,000. No one was hurt.
