Jaguars ground game too much for Habersham

ATHENS -- Cedar Shoals scored 16 second half points and held Habersham Central scoreless over the final 30 minutes of the game en route to a 23-14 come-from-behiind Region 8-AAAA win Friday night at home.

The Jaguars (1-0) used a punishing ground attack piling up 274 yards on 50 carries. Senior Tremaine Goddard had 93 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries to lead the Cedar Shoals ground attack.

Habersham had leads of 7-0 and 14-7 but could not contain the Jaguars in the second half. The Raiders (0-1) scored first on a 61-yard pass from Austin Brown to Kevin Ellison and then took a 14-7 lead on a 2-yard run from Tyler Jackson in the second quarter.

The Cedar Shoals defense clamped down on Habersham in the second half holding the Raiders to under 75 yards in the final two quarters.
