Unmarked graves located at Gainesville's Alta Vista Cemetery

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville's Field Services Manager at Alta Vista Cemetery said Wednesday the 'pauper' section will be preserved after ground penetrating radar located several burials.

Vince Evans said the area serves as the cemetery's green space and no burials will take place there. Evans said the last burial was possibly 50 years ago; use of the section began around 100 years ago by mostly Afro American families.
