Education consultant gives QBE an 'F'

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Former Oconee County teacher and school administrator Doug Eza said in Gainesville Wednesday night that things are not going to get any easier for school taxpayers until the state upgrades and updates the Quality Basic Education Act (QBE).

QBE was passed 24 years ago in 1985 with the intention of providing every public school student in the state with a quality basic education.

Eza, from Watkinsville, now an education consultant, was a high school teacher, a principal and later an Oconee County assistant school superintendent.

He told his audience at the Gainesville High School Performing Arts Center that the cost of providing that quality basic education has fallen to local taxpayers, and QBE has failed to keep up with the times.
