Lake Lanier communities want 'water credit'

GAINESVILLE - Three Gainesville City officials attended a 'water summit' hosted by the State Senate Republican Caucus Thursday morning at Lake Lanier Islands.

City Councilman George Wangemann said among other things elected leaders from cities and counties drawing water from the lake want credit for the water they return to it.

Wangemann said elected leaders from Hall, Lumpkin, Dawson and Forsyth counties attended the breakfast meeting.

"We want to get the Corps of Engineers to recognize that we would like to see what we put back into the lake in the form of treated wastewater taken into consideration, not just what we withdraw from the lake," Wangemann said.â
