Flowery Branch Council splits on real estate deal

GAINESVILLE - Two Flowery Branch City Council members Wednesday opposed the city's purchase of its leased Main Street administrative buildings, saying it was not appraised and using anticipated SPLOST revenues to buy it could be illegal.
Councilman Craig Lutz questioned the legal use of SPLOST revenues, saying it was not clear how the money would be spent on the March 17th SPLOST Vl ballot.
In his strongest condemnation yet, Councilman Chris Fetterman said majority council members were out of control and out of touch.
Council voted 3-2, with Lutz and Fetterman voting no, to approve the $400,000 purchase using a Tax Anticipation Note to be paid back with future SPLOST Six revenues.
