BC keeps Tech winless in ACC tourney

By The Associated Press
DURHAM, N.C. -- Sophomore third baseman Mickey Wiswall drove in Boston College's first five runs with a double and a pair of homers to lift the Eagles to a 7-3 victory over Georgia Tech Thursday in game four of the 2009 ACC Baseball Championship.

Wiswall began the Eagles' scoring with a bases-loaded, two-run double in the bottom of the first inning, after Boston College filled the bases with a hit batsman, an error on a sacrifice bunt and a walk. He followed in his next two at bats with a two-run homer to right field and a solo shot to left center.

Wiswall now has a team-leading 14 home runs and 62 RBIs for the season. His runs batted in total ties the second most in school history for a single season. Georgia Tech touched Boston College starter J.B. MacDonald for three runs in the top of the fifth, beginning with Chase Burnette's solo homer over the left field wall "Blue Monster" of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

That was followed by a double to right by designated hitter Jason Haniger and a single by third baseman Matt Skole. Haniger scored on a fielder's choice for the Jackets' second run of the inning. A single by Jason Garofalo put runners on first and third for center fielder Jeff Rowland, who brought Chris House home with a sacrifice fly.

But MacDonald (5-7) survived the shaky inning and held on for the victory, thanks to stellar relief help from Kevin Moran, who allowed only two hits and no runs in his three innings of action. Closer Mike Belfiore pitched a scoreless ninth in a non-save situation.

Georgia Tech freshman Jed Bradley (2-3) started and went four innings to take the loss.

Junior center fielder Robbie Anston gave the Eagles a cushion with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.

The Eagles (32-24) will play Miami at noon on Friday, while Georgia Tech (34-17-1) will face Florida State at noon on Saturday after both teams are off on Friday.
