Hall planners approve South Hall helipad

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - A Roswell eye doctor and helicopter pilot won approval Monday night from the Hall County Planning Commission to continue landing his helicopter at his property near Lake Lanier in south Hall County.

Dr. Billy Moscow told commissioners he does a lot of community service with that helicopter and it does not make that much noise.

His neighbors from Four Seasons Subdivision lined up in support and agreed;but one of them, Doug Weiss, disagreed, claiming the helipad could raise a land value question and set a precedent.

Commissioners bypassed a staff recommended denial and approved Moscow's rezoning request from vacation cottage to Planned Residential Development for the helipad.

Commission Chairman Don Smallwood, himself a pilot, said he listened to supporters and opponents.

"I don't see anything wrong with what he's asking to do," Smith said. "The F.A.A. (Federal Aviation Administration) is not going to let him do anything crazy down there and neither is the County."
