Hall United Way unveils 2009 goal

GAINESVILLE - United Way of Hall County launched its 2009 campaign Thursday morning by hearing from those it benefits.

A room full of supporters at the Gainesville Civic Center heard from football player parent and teacher at Wauka Mountain Elementary School LeeAnn Nixon, Lindsay Burton, a Hall County court prosecutor, FullMedia president Davis White and Ariel Collins, a 9th grade student at Johnson High School.

United Way unveiled a $1.87-million goal, a goal affected by current economic times according to 2009 campaign chair Kelly Mathis Lee.

"We set the goal trying to make sure that we could keep all the funding levels to all of our community partners where they are even in these hard economic times," Lee said. It's really important to make sure those partner agencies are able to keep functioning and keep doing what they do in the community."

Lee said last year's goal just over $2-million and it was reached with $4,000 to spare.

"This year's goal is a little lower but we took into consideration the economic times and some changes in the community with different companies," Lee said.

Lee is confident the community will get behind the goal and so is Robin Smith with B.B.&T.
