Jackson named White County manager

By Dean Dyer, WRWH
CLEVELAND - White County Commissioners have tapped former State Senator Carol Jackson to be the new White County Manager. Jackson along with Tim Merritt of Clermont were named the two finalistS for the position two weeks ago.

At a called meeting Thursday, the commissioners voted unanimously to hire Jackson. Commission Chairman Travis Turner said they are excited about the knowledge and experience that Jackson will bring to the office. The commissioners said Jackson will receive $75,000 a year, a $500 a month vehicle allowance and normal employee health coverage.

Jackson begins work officially October 1, but Turner said, "You will probably see her around the courthouse the next couple of weeks."

Jean Welborn, who has served as interim manager since the first of August, will remain with the county through December to assist in a smooth transition. Twenty four candidates had applied for the position, and the commissioners said they were all highly qualified candidates.
