Local church sponsors "gas buydown"

GAINESVILLE - Motorists at two Hall County convenience stores had a pleasant surprise at the gas pump Saturday morning.

As part of its Community Impact Day, Blackshear Place Baptist Church sponsored what it called a "gas buydown" at two convenience stores on opposite ends of the county.

Customers at the BP station on Thompson Bridge Road just north of Enota Avenue and at the Exxon station on Highway 53 near Sloan Mill Road were able to buy regular unleaded gasoline for just $1.99 per gallon.

The offer was available from 10:00 a.m. to noon Saturday.

A promotional postcard distributed by the church said, "We are trying to make a small difference in our community."
