GAINESVILLE - An estimated 500 people lined Gainesville's downtown streets holding 'Right to Life' signs Sunday afternoon; It was part of the national anti-abortion campaign called 'Life Chain'.
St. Michael's Catholic Church pastor, Father Jaime Barona, said Protestants and Catholics gathered at the corner of E.E. Butler and Jesse Jewell Parkway, peacefully holding signs to remind passing motorists that, where the church is concerned, abortion is a sin.
"As we speak the entire country is rallying to revere life," Father Barona said.
Doug Butler, a St. Michael's parishioner, held a sign that read 'Abortion Kills Children' and said the Life Chain for him was time better spent that watching sports on T.V.
"It's more important than a ball game," Butler said. "You pick your priorities and watch the ball game another time. This is a much more important game, it's important to let people know and appeal to their conscience that it is not good idea to abort children."
