(Cleveland)- White County fire and Georgia Forestry units battled a wood and brush fire Friday afternoon west of Cleveland on Water Cress Road off Gene Nix Road. Ana Newberry said the fire burned about three acres.
According to Newberry the blaze was in a remote area and started when a dead tree fell on a power line. The fire was discovered by a Georgia Power crew that was dispatched as a result of power outage in the area.
Georgia Forestry Commission was called in to plow around the fire in an effort to contain it. High winds help spread the fire.
Earlier in the day another fire at 1765 Helen Highway was extinguished by White County and Cleveland fire units.
North Georgia was under a red flag warning because of the dry, windy conditions. No injuries have been reported in either fire.
