ATLANTA - The Professional Standards Commission has halted its ethics investigation of a former North Hall High School band director, now that he has surrendered his teaching certificate.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Alan Keith Kirkland's certificate was canceled Oct. 14, and that, in essence, puts a stop to the investigation.
Kirkland stepped down from his position at North Hall in the spring after a fellow teacher reported suspicions of Kirkland's relationship with a student. The 37-year-old Kirkland, according to the AJC, admitted the relationship with a senior girl when confronted by administrators.
