OAKWOOD - Oakwood's City Council has decided to be local vendor friendly with an ordinance that helps Oakwood area businesses to win contracts with the city.
During Monday night's council meeting a resolution for local vendor preference was presented by City Manager Stan Brown which gives Hall County based businesses with an Oakwood license a break by giving them a concession on city purchases between $20,000 and $100,000.
"We had looked at it in the past and our concern was projects over $100,000, state law pretty much dictates that," Brown said. "This ordinance would really cover those purchases we make at less than $100,000 and will provide some local vendor preference where they can match the lowest price."
Under state regulations anything over $100,000 has to be let to the lowest bidder regardless of his address, but the local vendor preference allows a local company to match the low bid if that bid is within three percent of the out of town company's bid provided the purchase is below $100,000.
