CLEVELAND -  Truett-McConnell College held a ground breaking ceremony Friday afternoon to signify the start of construction for the largest expansion ever seen on the campus in Cleveland.

The board of trustees recently approved additions to the Miller Building and Dining Hall in addition to the construction of a brand new residence hall.

The Miller Building will be expanded into a three story building which will contain the Creation Research Center,  World Mission Center, six classrooms, a 106-seat auditorium, a student lounge, food retail shops and two laboratories.

As for the dining hall, the seating capacity will double to 450, and it will also include a 210 seat banquet hall allowing the community to host events on the campus. The new residence hall will be a three-story dormitory  with approximately 173 beds. Among those attending Friday's ceremony were alumnus, donors, trustees, former trustees and friends of the college.

"Truett McConnell College is a large part of this community and if your look at the millions of dollars that  this institution pours into Cleveland and White County it means a lot," said Cleveland Mayor Don Stanley.

Stanley said the expansion would not only be good for the school, but for the city and county as well.

Dr. Emir Caner, Truett McConnell College President said the overwhelming turnout for the groundbreaking shows great unity in the community for the school.

Focus Design Builders has been selected as  the general contractor of the expansion projects.  No construction start date was announced.
