Hall High Schools preparing for Da Vinci learners

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Hall County's Da Vinci Academy middle school students who are moving on to high school have a chance to continue their innovative high tech learning in high school in a program under review by school board members.
If board members approve the program this month, Advanced Programs Director Dr. Sally Krisel said 50 Da Vinci students would have a school of choice option.

"Three of our high schools are going to step forward and propose additional ways that they can continue the Da Vinci experience," Dr. Krisel said. "Chestatee High School, West Hall High School and Johnson High School have been specifically working on transitional programs."

Dr. Sally Krisel added that the commitment to advanced learning could continue.

"We have always been committed to parents and families of Da Vinci that we would provide a continuation of those things that have been very special for their children," Dr. Krisel said.

According to Dr. Krisel the students would also have the option of returning to their home high school if that suits their desire based on academics, athletics, or family tradition.

"Some of our Da Vinci students are ready to get into that larger pond," she said. "They were selected at Da Vinci because they love art, science and technology but many of these kids are multi-talented and they may choose to go back to other high schools."
