GAINEVILLE - Gainesville's Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia Thursday named this year's Woman of Distinction at their annual banquet at First United Methodist Church.

Marsha Hopkins, Gainesville civic leader and life long Girl Scout, was cited for her community and youth service; Thursday was proclaimed Marsha Hopkins Day in Gainesville and Hall County by Mayor Ruth Bruner, and Hopkins was named an 'Outstanding Georgian' by Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp.

Her long list of community involvement includes the Girls Club, Salvation Army, Hall County Planning Commission, Hall County Historical Society, the Elachee Nature Center and the Alliance for Literacy.

The new Woman of Distinction said lessons she learned as a Girl Scout turned out to be life lessons and invited her capacity audience to remember what is important.

"Make friends, and serve others," she said.
