The Chestatee boys tennis team won a tight 3-2 match over Lumpkin County Thursday in both teams' Region 7A-AAA season finale.
The War Eagles won two of three singles matches in dramatic fashion coming from a set down in both wins.
Chestatee's Jonathan Cook defeated Will Jarrard, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 while Jeremiah Reed rallied to beat Lumpkin's Daniel Cribbs, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Lumpkin's James Snipes beat Chestatee's Ben Hassler 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Chestatee's Brantley Beck and Pearce Gruenenfelder knocked off Edgar Rojas and Nick Brashier 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles to seal the win. The Indians'
Jake McClure and Ben Mayfield beat Chase Smith and Reese Smith 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles for their second win.
Chestatee finished the season 6-6 in the subregion and will be the No. 4 seed from 7A-AAA in the region tournament in two weeks. The War Eagles will take on 7B-AAA fifth-seed Flowery Branch in the first round April 13, at Alberta Park, at 11:30 a.m.
