Library Board turns Clermont down

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Clermont officials hoping to get the Hall Library Board to add two members from Clermont came away disappointed Tuesday after the Board turned them down and offered to lease their library building.

Board member Mike Freeman made the motion rejecting the city's bid for board members based on its long time in kind contributions that supported the library in Clermont.

"We advised the chairman and executive director to respond the attorney that we did not agree with his position," Freeman said.

Clermont Mayor James Nix said Clermont is entitled to board representation.

"We were hoping they would give us representation on the Board like we asked for it," Nix said.

Freeman also wants to form a committee to review the Board's constitution; he said it may have to be amended to allow board members from Clermont.
Members also questioned the need to add Clermont members when there already were members on the board who are from Clermont.

Nix said he thought the library board's constitution called for board members from a city that contributed to the library.
