Tadmore students learn from Ag Fun Day

GILLSVILLE - Around 200 students at East Hall County's Tadmore Elementary School got time out from class to learn about agriculture Thursday during the Fourth Annual Hall County Ag Fun Day.

They're also learning to care for others; after visiting the poultry exhibit set up in front of the school and petting baby chicks,second grade teacher Lorrie Moore said her students saw chicks like the ones they sent to a family in need.

"This group collected enough money to send two flocks of chicks for a family somewhere in the world to help them get a better start in life," Moore said.

The students petted baby chicks and baby goats; they learned about growing plants and watched a cow get milked among other things. Assistant Principal Judy Mancuso said pre-K through second grade students spent the morning at Ag Fun Day, learning from various exhibits.

"This is great for our kids," she said. "They were excited knowing about it and it's a great experience for them."

Second graders Albert Martinez and Cassie Sosebee said they learned food is grown on the farm.

"You get to be with Mother Nature," Albert said.

"We need these animals as part of the life cycle," Cassie observed.

This was the Fourth Annual Ag Fun Day supported by the Hall County Extension Service and Farm Bureau and the first time it was held at Tadmore School.
