Voice of the Jackets, Falcons visits Gainesville Kiwanis

GAINESVILLE -- The football play-by-play announcer for both the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Atlanta Falcons told Gainesville Kiwanis Club members Tuesday that the Falcons will likely stay at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta because of the franchise's solid relationship with the World Congress Center amid speculation that the team is looking for a new home.

Wes Durham also compared the popularity of professional football and baseball with the fans.

"For you baseball fans I'm sorry to tell you that football has passed baseball as America's past time," Durham said.

Durham predicted a heavily competitive back-loaded schedule for the Falcons with five conference games and four division games in the last five weeks of the season. The Voice of the Yellow Jackets also paid tribute to the longtime former voice of the Georgia Bulldogs, as Durham said Larry Munson was one of a kind.

"He is an institution, a classic -- 41 years doing a game, he is a treasure," Durham said.

Durham added that Scott Howard was the obvious good choice to replace Munson at the UGA football mike. Durham predicted strong gridiron starts for both UGA and Tech this season, with both teams learning how strong their defense is after the first couple of games.
