Murder charges in Buford case

By Staff
GWINNETT COUNTY - Murder charges have now been filed in connection with the death of a Buford woman whose body was found in the trunk of a car earlier this week.

Gwinnett County police say that Paul Sherman, 45, originally named a person of interest in the death of Joanne Kent, 59, of Buford, has now been charged with her strangulation. Kent's body was found Monday in the trunk of a vehicle parked at 200 Bona Road.

At that time, Sherman was questioned by police and ran from the scene. An officer involved in the chase broke his ankle. He was treated and released from the hospital.

Originally, detectives charged Sherman with one count of Obstruction, one count of Loitering and Prowling and one count of Violation of Georgia's Controlled Substance Act. Now, Sherman is charged with Malice Murder and Concealing the Death of Another.

Sherman is being held without bond.
