GAINESVILLE - It was move in day for around 150 residential first year women at Brenau University in Gainesville Wednesday and enrollment numbers are up this year according to campus officials.

Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services Scott Briell said the first day is one of the busiest days of the year on campus, with a total of 330 new women's college students starting the new year at Brenau.

"We're up about 40 to 50 students in the women's college from last year," Briell said. "We'll probably have over 900 women's college students enrolled and the university enrollment will probably be in the range of 2700 by next week."

Briell said the new students are arriving in Gainesville from all over the nation and the world.

"We've got a lot of students from Georgia, a lot from right here in Hall County and we've got two students from Russia coming to play basketball for us," Briell said. "We have an Afghani student who has just joined us, several from China, several from the Carolinas and Florida, and a few from out west who are coming to play different sports for us."

One of the athletic students is Christina Reynolds, who will study business administration while attending on a softball scholarship.

"It's been fun," she said. "It was kind of hard getting all our stuff in our room but we're good now and we're ready to start school. It's just exciting to go through the college experience and start a new chapter in my life."
